Get It will get your message on target

dart-board-25780_1280There have never been so many ways to reach your audience.  Knowing where they look and how to connect with them is vital.   Getting your message “out there” means making sure it doesn’t get lost.

The human brain is inundated with so much information every day it would be enough to overload a laptop in a week according to research by the University of California- San Diego’s Roger Bon.

Mobile phones, social media, email, the Internet, television, radio, newspapers bombard us with around 105,000 words, or 23 words per second, in half a day.  Include images, videos and games  and we have received the equivalent of 34 gigabytes of information per day.

Refining what you want to say, who you want to tell, what you want them to do and where to reach your audience is the most important preparation to publicise your project. Your message needs to be clear, concise and slice smoothly through the clutter.

Publicity needn’t cost much at all.  If you’ve something worth talking about, that is your collateral.   All you really need to do is remember your COAT:

  • Clear:  what is your message and what do you want your audience to do?
  • Organised – consider media deadlines, simulating releases or giving exclusives
  • Available – arrange to be available to give any interviews or answer any enquiries
  • Targeted – know where your audience looks and plan where your message will go.
